2 component injection moulding
IMOS' new optical sensors are becoming smaller and smaller.
The housing with lenses for transmitters and receivers, for
filters, or for the target optic with the DOE form a closed
array.
Closed? Not quite, because the electronics need to fit inside as
well. Don't forget to seal it tight afterwards, however, to prevent
steam or dust from entering.
The edge of the housing is fitted with a thin seal for this purpose. It
is so filigree that it cannot be fitted by hand. The seal is added by
IMOS during 2 C injection moulding. The optical sensor is then
complete and able to be sold at a low price. Once the customer's
electronics are inserted, the sensor is sealed tight. It can even be
dropped into a bowl of water to test its impermeability.
