Only 3 µm between theory and practice
[05.12.2016]
Every day IMOS examines new topics all around the feasibility of ideas for optics featuring as minute deviations as possible from theoretical calculations. The example of a new IMOS double lens with two different focal lengths shows that extremely minute process tolerances can be obtained. Production values differ from theoretical values by only 3 μm (= 0.003 mm). Simultaneously a tolerance < 1% was achieved on the focal lengths with a process capability index (cpk) > 1.66. This means that statistically, when measuring a million lenses, only one or two optics will differ from the calculated values.
